TE KUIRAU MARAE

Te Kuirau Marae is one of three Marae in Ōhinemutu, Rotorua and is home to many uri of Ngāti Te Roro o te Rangi, Ngāti Turipuku & Ngāti Whakaue. Our marae complex is available for bookings by all whānau, hapū, iwi, and our wider hapori including sporting & community groups and other organisations.

Our Booking Information

Booking Process

All booking requests are to be submitted via our online booking form
Our bookings officer Erena Temara will review and confirm availability of the marae and your request
If the marae is available, a deposit of $150.00 is payable to confirm your booking. This is non-refundable should you decide to cancel.
Full and final payment for your booking is due no later than 21 days prior to your scheduled arrival date
Once full and final payment is received, the initial booking deposit of $150.00 becomes your refundable bond.
In the event of cancellation by the hirer prior to receiving final payment an administration fee will be charged. If a cancellation is actioned after receiving full payment the initial booking deposit is forfeited.
For confirmed bookings, a Marae representative will meet with the hirer at the Marae at an agreed time.

Te Kuirau Marae Booking Fees

Booking Deposit/Bond: $150.00 refundable
Day/Night Hire: $250 per night
(From 11am on arrival day to 10am on leaving day)
Day/Hourly Hire: $ to be advised, pending timeframes
Linen: $70 per wash
Tangihanga: Koha (Linen charges are applied in full at $70 per wash)

Purpose of Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure everyone is informed about our hiring processes, policies, and procedures, and to facilitate effective communication for those who book Te Kuirau Marae.

Introduction

Te Kuirau Marae is one of three Marae in Ōhinemutu, Rotorua and is home to many uri of Ngāti Te Roro o te Rangi, Ngāti Turipuku, Ngāti Whakaue.

There are two whānau who maintain ahikā for the Marae, these are the uri of Tokia and Te Tai. The whānau Te Kowhai and Hodges are the trustees of the Marae.

Policy Guidelines

Marae bookings includes the following;

Wharenui - mattresses & pillows
Wharekai - dining tables, chairs, TV cooking facilities and equipment
Wharepaku - showers and toilets
Gas, water, power and wifi charges
Linen charges are separate

Building Compliance

Te Kuirau marae has a current Building Compliance. A copy of the certificate can be found here:

Ngāwhā

Please note there is an active hot pool by the concrete fence line towards the Utuhina awa. It is hot and active – please keep an eye on our tamariki in and around the fence line near the ngāwhā and awa.

Fire & Emergencies

For fire or evacuation emergencies please evacuate the buildings immediately to the Marae gate. If safe to do so, meet at the carpark area.

Health and Safety is our priority. Please inform us of any incidents

Smoking & Drinking

The Marae is a smoke and vape free, alcohol-free and drug-free environment. Smoking and drinking is prohibited at all times within the buildings and the grounds.

Tangihanga

Tangihanga takes precedence over all bookings. If the marae is required for a tangihanga during booked dates we will suggest alternative accommodation. Any monies paid will be reimbursed.

Overnight Accommodation

The Wharenui can accommodate up to a maximum of 22 people in our wharenui overnight. Please do not sleep in the wharekai or storage pod. Mattresses are provided however linen incurs additional costs. Blankets/sleeping bags and toiletries are the responsibility of the hirer.

The marae will provide minimal supplies such as toilet paper, cleaning products – but please bring your own supplies for your stay.

Hirer Responsibilities

The hirer is responsible for ensuring that all housekeeping requirements are carried out before departure. The hirer will be responsible for any damage or loss to the Marae property while the Hirer has the use of the facilities.

Te Roro O Te Rangi - Wharenui (Meeting House)

Footwear must not be worn in the Wharenui
Food or drink must not be taken into or consumed in the Wharenui, unless it is medication and water only
Clothing/towels must not be hung on the carvings, walls, marae fence area, or windowsills
You are responsible for ensuring your belongings are secure
Do not sit on the pillows or play on the mattresses

Kaimatai - Wharekai (Kitchen & Dining)

Never sit on tables or benches as this is for food. Seats are provided.
Pyjamas and nightwear are for sleeping in and should not be worn into the dining room
Please lift the chairs and tables, do not drag them across the lino floor as this will mark the floors
Please remove all rubbish, rubbish bins are located to the side of the kitchen, red lid is for general waster, yellow lid for recycling.
Cleaning equipment is kept on the outside verandah. Please do not mix the kitchen cleaning equipment with wharepaku equipment.
An 80inch TV, with HDMI cord, video availability is located in the storage cupboard. Please return this to the cupboard when you leave.

I confirm I have read and understand the Te Kuirau Marae booking policy, terms and conditions.
I understand by completing this form it is only a request and a deposit is required to confirm my booking.
I understand the Marae reserves the right to cancel my booking should another hirer pay a deposit before me.
If a pōwhiri/mihi whakatau is required as part of the kawa and tikanga of Te Kuirau marae a time will need to be negotiated.
I understand tangihanga takes precedence. If a tangihanga should arise during my booking dates my booking will be cancelled.
I confirm no more than 22 people will be staying overnight at the marae during our booking period.
